"Thank You, Sir Charles" Curated by Wakefield Brewster

Presented by
The GRAND

This April we are proud to present “Thank You, Sir Charles” at The GRAND, a multidisciplinary production, celebrating and showcasing Black artists and artistry, curated by The GRAND’s Poet in Residence and Calgary’s Poet Laureate, Wakefield Brewster.

Presented in cabaret style, this production features, tap dance from Lisa La Touche and a special screening of her film ‘TRAX’, a musical performance from Calgary-based singer-songwriter Uyemi, as well as poetry and spoken word performances by Wakefield Brewster, Chris L. Butler, Tanecia Cromwell, Adetola Adedipe, and Sholley Powell.

Following the production, everyone is invited to join us for a panel discussion and Q&A with the artists, moderated by Wakefield Brewster.

“Thank You, Sir Charles”, curated by Wakefield Brewster, is a multidisciplinary celebration of Black arts and artists. This presentation is the first step in honouring Charles Daniels, telling his story, and forging new paths forward with Black artists and communities. “Thank You, Sir Charles” inaugurates the formation of the Charles Daniels Committee led by creative visionaries Wakefield Brewster, Cheryl Foggo and Lisa La Touche, with support from The GRAND staff and board members.
